Once a week, KYRS’s music librarian, Hallie, guides you through the newest music entering the station and the best independent releases of the past two years. The Inbox showcases a mix of new and old songs from some of your favorite artists and explores recent releases, and this week we were lucky enough to sit down with Hallie and learn a little more about the voice behind the mic:

KYRS: Hey, Hallie. We wanted to chat with you this week because you’re always looking for new music it air on your show, but this month you’re looking for something in particular. Want to tell us about that?

HALLIE: Every February, we celebrate a special holiday. And no, I’m not talking about Valentine’s Day. I’m referring to the 28 days we dedicate to honoring Black History Month. I am asking anyone who is interested to please submit musical selections or spoken word pieces to be featured in our Black History Month spotlight.

KYRS: Great! So, speaking of your show. How long as it been on the air?

HALLIE: Two years! It first aired in September, 2018.

KYRS: What made you want to create your show?

HALLIE: I started as a volunteer librarian and wanted to showcase the great music coming to the station. And I’ve always wanted to be a DJ!

KYRS: How long were you a volunteer before becoming a DJ? Did you have any other experience?

HALLIE: I was a volunteer for 6 months. Other than that, I have worked in teams for work and sports most of my life.

KYRS: What do you want folks to get from your program?

HALLIE: Joy. Or a laugh at my blubbering. Inspiration to check out a new band.

KYRS: Who’s an inspiration for you?

HALLIE: My mom. Also, several other programmers and volunteers here at the station. [Program Director] Dana’s passion for the station is infectious.

KYRS: When can folks hear the Inbox, and where can they send music submissions?

HALLIE: Every Sunday from 11am-1pm, and listeners can always call the on-air line during my show at 509-747-3807, email me their suggestions to me, or check out the local music scene and submit suggestions on my Facebook page!
