In Western societies, people historically have been taught to look to institutions to provide guidance, justice, and safety when things go wrong- but the truth reflects a much different reality. Institutions like the medical and mental health fields, the justice system, law enforcement, and schools are failing. Bias, budget cuts, and political interference create serious obstacles that prevent these services from functioning properly, and the fallout disproportionately affects vulnerable and marginalized groups.  On the show, a former pediatric and adolescent psychiatric nurse shares her insights on the malfunctions afflicting the US mental health field through the lens of her personal and professional experience in the field.
