In March 2016, queer and trans youth activists of color took to the road for two weeks through 5 Southern states for the Beyond Equality Ride, a tour of Christian college campuses where LGBTQI students are harmed by spiritually violent policies, attitudes, and theologies. In the heat of Christian colleges filing for anti-trans waivers to Title IX exemptions and Southern states passing legislation to legalize discrimination against their LGBTQI residents, these 10 Riders took to some of the most conservative places in the U.S. to proclaim that all LGBTQI identities are gifts from God and to demand protection for schools’ most vulnerable students. They are now working with LGBTQI Christian college students to boost a national campaign demanding that religious exemptions to Title IX be replaced with queer and trans friendly resources.
