In this show I explored the several forms in which news is delivered: prepackaged news, non-existent (or absent) news, and invented (or fictional) news. Contemporary ideas of news assert one of two theories of news: 1) the people are not capable of understanding current events and must be led to “appropriate” understandings and 2) the people require only accurate and factual news of their affairs. The works of Ed Bernays and Walter Lippmann were used to explain the origins of this second theory of news, and examples were drawn from contemporary news items such as the impeachment of Rousseff in Brazil, coverage of the Syrian conflict, and the general attitude of the MSM toward Russia.
