STA News:
From June 13 to September 15, District 81 students will be able to ride STA buses for free. The Spokane city council passed this deal on Monday night. It’s called the Spokane Youth Card Program. Students will be able to access the public pools, the skate ribbon, and skate parks for free as well.
“The goal is to drive demand for, and break down barriers to, accessing City services. Joint marketing will help drive awareness. Access to public transportation services will help make access to City events and services more convenient and drive use,” the proposal said.
The cards will be available from the public libraries. STA will monitor the card activity and bill the city during the three month period.
Children of the Sun Solar Initiatives:
This is a a project that will allow the Spokane tribe to be more independent in their energy needs. According to Becky Kramer of the Spokesman Review last year, the initiative was developed after the Cayuse Mountain Fire destroyed 18000 acres, 14 homes and left the reservation without power for five days.
It will be a multi-year project and is expected to save the tribe 2.8 million dollars over 30 years according to Samantha Wolfeil in an article published last week in the Inlander.
