KYRS, the region’s leader in progressive programming, is seeking self-motivated individuals interested in news journalism to produce a one-hour weekly radio show covering local news. Of particular focus will be regional topics that are often under-reported or overlooked by commercial media.

Duties will include:

  • Synthesizing the week’s local news stories and summarizing developments for listeners
  • Producing original reporting
  •  Conducting interviews
  • Compiling segments into one-hour shows

Experienced journalists, individuals with deep local knowledge, students and individuals wishing to pursue news reporting are highly encouraged to apply. This is an excellent opportunity to promote local civic engagement while gaining real world experience in radio journalism and receiving in-depth, hands-on training in broadcast. A high level of journalism ethics and accountability is mandatory.

This is a volunteer position requiring a 12-month commitment due to the level of training involved. To apply, email a resume and cover letter to news@kyrs.org. Include contact details for three academic or professional references.
