I talked with my friend and “compagnon dans les arts” Jeremy Whittington. Jeremy is the Program Director for Spokane Arts. Spokane Arts has been in the local news lately. There is always a political component to making art – in the messaging, in the funding and in the performance/display of created works. How has the mission of Spokane Arts evolved during this national constitutional crisis? This is a topic that has really been on my mind lately. The United States has a long history of combating fascism with art. Human expression through created artistic works and performances always seems to be the undervalued tool that continually brings down oppressive regimes in the most lovely of fashions.
