A question arose regarding the origin of the music I played labelled as by Umoja. This is due to the multiple uses of this term over time. On wikipedia the only musical reference to Umoja is a recording in 2006 by the Dutch rock band Blof and while this looks interesting it is not what I played. Umoja can also refer to a K-Pop band that put out an EP in 2014, but again this is not what was heard on air.
The Umoja I played during the 10-noon show is a duo of electronic producers/ remixers named Sjef and Job, born in Haarlen, NL from what I could find and now operating out of Amsterdam. The song I played was from there second release Vuelo Nocturno from 2013
The Umoja I played during the 1-3 PM show is different: this was an Afro-Funk band out of South Africa that was active in the 1980’s. The song “Owewe” is from an album of the same name released in 2019 which (as far as I can tell) is a remix of older material
I hope this clears up any confusion. Happy listening and continue to support KYRS and Global Odyssey= Music Without Borders
