Today we had originally planned for a different guest, but we had to improvise. Jane, an SCC student who has been battling poverty, is a returning guest. Nina is a stay at home mom who has been battling quite a few diseases and is unable to work. Due to her circumstances she is in poverty, yet Nina refuses to give up. It was a roundtable discussion on what each person was going through, and the discriminations our culture placed on them for their predicament. A difficult show to do, seeing that there are some people out there who just don’t fit the cookie-cutter system we have out there employed to provide resources.
Some negative connotations we discussed were,
1) Those that are in poverty are just lazy.
2) Mental Illness plays no part in poverty.
