Today we had a great conversation with Karen Kearney, a local community activist. Karen volunteers with the emergency men’s shelter, House of Charity, here in Spokane. Karen, Sarah, and I had a great conversation on the inner workings of H.O.C. (House of Charity). Discussed panhandling as well as local resources. We talked about options for someone to follow instead of giving money to panhandlers, and debated on which would be better. We also touched up on the statistics of those that H.O.C. helps. I was also reminded to post a few statistics myself from one of the recent Point in Time counts. The P.I.T. count is a federally mandated census of anyone who has been homeless the previous year.
