“Pride is a party, nowadays, but the first Pride was a riot.” So says today’s in-studio guest, Michael Jepson, OutSpokane Board Member and Spokane Pride Month organizer. Starting with FDR’s “honey stings” while Undersecretary of the Navy in the early 20th Century, Michael traced the arc of repression, harassment, and discrimination against the LGBTQ Community through America’s past century, as well as the ensuing and still ongoing struggles for liberation. Along the way we addressed the political response to AIDS epidemic, Spokane’s Pride awakening and upcoming Pride Celebration events amongst other related topics.
