Playlist for Show: SOS-Spokane

This week’s discussion topic was homelessness from the perspective of a currently homeless person. Crayton James Welch is a disabled senior sleeping in the woods north of town. He described problems attendant to addressing every day needs, his hunt for housing, and the varied perceptions folks have of the homeless. We then turned to bottom-up solutions to Spokane’s homelessness crisis. Among those ideas was to build small self governing transitional housing communities offering basic private shelters and shared resources housed within a community building. This building would have a social services office, showers and toilets, a communal kitchen and dining area, storage lockers, a community/kids room, and a day jobs center.
