Three Spokane Muslim community members joined today’s SOS-Spokane conversation. Bosnian refugees and local professionals Admir & Azra Rasic joined Rasheed Bellamy, an immigrant from Barbados and 23 year U.S. Air Force veteran as my guests. We conversed about their personal journeys, Spokane’s diverse Muslim community, regional hate groups and fear of The Other, the Spokane City Council‘s salutation to it’s Muslim Community, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and on-going bridge-building efforts. The Spokane Interfaith Council and their Meet The Neighbors program, Muslims for Community Action and Support (MCAS), and the African slave trade to the Americas were likewise highlighted and discussed.
