Spokane Veterans For Peace members Hollis Higgins, George Taylor, and Tedine Roos joined us in a lively wide-ranging conversation. Topics included the origins and purpose of their organization, American empire, the Truth In Recruitment program, growing impoverishment and the economic “backdoor” draft, undeclared wars, homeless vets, Fairchild Airbase and U.S. military environmental pollutants, Major General Smedley Butler’s famous memoir “War Is A Racket“, veterans suffering from PTS(D), ADD and Agent Orange; nuclear disarmament, the Pentagon’s enormous no-audit slice of the national budget, military sexual trauma, harassments and predations; local coalition building, and members’ notable stance against coal and oil trains passing through downtown Spokane.
