Today’s guest, Edward Larry Beggs became an ordained pastor in the Congregational United Church of Christ. In 1967 Larry Beggs founded the Huckleberry House for Runaways in San Francisco, the first of its kind in this country, creating the template and the inspiration for many such homes, programs and shelters across the United States. At a time when being or even assisting a homeless youth was criminalized nationwide Edward Larry Beggs advocated for and ultimately succeeded in passage of national legislation correcting this injustice. Beggs is the author of the photo journal Skateland: Fifteen California Stories, Lake Chelan Stories, and the autobiography “My Wildest Dreams Come True”. He lives with his wife in Seal Beach, California, and is the father of Spokane City Councilman Breean Beggs.
