Spurred by a recently published Inlander article SOS-Spokane co-producer/sound engineer James McMillan joined Paul in conversation updating the community on the local homeless situation. At issue were published comments made by Dawn Kinder, Director of the Community, Housing, and Human Sevices (CHHS) Department of the City of Spokane. Kinder claimed her department’s efforts to solicit outside organizations to provide homeless warming shelters this winter had been hampered by “activists” politicizing the process at a meeting held at city hall. As attendees to the cited meeting, James and Paul pointed out that not a single potential shelter contractee attended the meeting. Moreover, Kinder herself was on extended maternity leave and likewise was not in attendance. Tom Robinson, the homeless advocate cited as well as quoted in the Inlander article then called in, updating listeners on breaking developments and revelations regarding this critical ongoing crisis, an issue SOS-Spokane promises listeners we’ll continue to cover in depth.
