Nicole Bishop, Chairperson for the Spokane Human Rights Commission was our in-studio guest. Nicole gave us a description of how, why, where, and when the commission functions, as well as how she personally became involved in it. She fielded phone-in calls on a particular housing concern from Rick; and Gena called in to inquire about opening up the Spokane City Hall to homeless folks this winter. Nicole explained how homeless individuals can petition the commission to have the city address their needs and conditions. The recent escalation of local hate crimes were likewise discussed along with myriad other issues the commission has or might deal with in the future, and its role as an advocate for those whose voices are otherwise little heard.
