I continue to refuse to cover the political theater of the US presidential races. More interesting and important matters, such as the issue of the preliminary report of the Dutch Safety Board on the crash of MH 17 are more worthy of discussion.
Cass Sustein, a close confident to Obama, also indicated that his favoring an army of cyber warriors to intervene in discussions on social media to defend and promote the current policies of the US, much like the hasbera of Israel. This would continue the degradation of language in general and continue to erode the efficacy of the public sphere, without which, democratic politics is impossible. Both political discourse and public discourse will continue their collapse as the credibility of language is undermined. Comparisons to the language of fascism are examined by looking at euphemisms which seek to hide the reality of programs and policies.
John Ralson Saul’s reflection on the rise of managerial language and thought are used as a counterpoint. Public debate is now no more than the formalized propaganda of interest groups. The defense of meaningful public thought, speech and action are indispensable to defending against despotism.
