This show discusses the history of Oxycontin and other drugs and the ways in which they have been marketed in the US. The history of opioids in the US is tracked from the early introduction of Laudanum and heroin through the FDA approval of oxycontin as a suitable drug for teenagers in the US. The profits of pharmaceutical companies take precedence over health and safety issues. This has been true for antipsycotic medications as well. Of special focus is the marketing of drugs and the creation of illnesses that do not exist prior to the creation of particular drugs.
