Playlist for Show: Long Waves

One listens and wonders at how the various machines of the political right, TV pundits, the AEI, various passengers in the clown car of GOP hopefuls, are so very good at reaching their base at the most base levels of emotionality: hate, fear, rage, envy. All problems are laid at the feet of liberals in government (surely there must be one!) or at the ‘takers’ in society and the programs that support them: welfare, food stamps, etc, and the usual race gender class distinctions that are only too prevalent in the “classless” US.

I discuss how the feelings of nihilism arising from the loss of privilege among aging, white, largely poor or working class people stems from their inability to see a future for themselves.

This show discusses the attacks on those groups and explores how the very politicians whose dog whistles these people hear are also the ones most likely to suffer from the elimination of entitlements. Policies of austerity, likewise steal from the working class and give money to the 1% while denying that there are sufficient funds to pay for basic supports.
