Just as one’s phrase of time limits his/her perspective, so one’s moral, social, political perspective can be limited by living in a small ideological world. Living thus, all information one wants to hear simply strengthens the confirmation bias and comes from well-known and trusted (official) sources, such as think tanks. The news reflects the views of power, so there is little chance of their thinking being challenged in that domain. Where in all of this is reality? Is there no test for such persons? And if our leaders have no test in reality for their thinking, what is to limit their ambitions? Certainly not failure for that is never acknowledged. That politics would operate on such premises guarantees that it cannot fix problems that exist in the real world.
This show returns to John Ralston Saul’s writings concerning the managerial elite in the US. They do not have thought. They can only manage, and these actions occur with childlike certainty of the outcome. Ultimately, the usefulness of public good and public knowledge is denied.
