OUTSpoken Boyz with be talking with Becky Morgan – Missouri Chapter Leader, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
The national Moms Demand Action website: www.momsdemandaction.org
Our gun safety program called BeSMART: www.BeSMARTforKids.org
Much like Mothers Against Drunk Driving was created to reduce drunk driving, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (www.momsdemandaction.org) was created to advocate for stronger laws and policies that will reduce gun violence and save lives. We are a non-partisan grassroots movement of American mothers demanding common-sense solutions to address our country’s dangerous culture of gun violence, which jeopardizes the safety of our children and families.
America is in a state of crisis: every day, 88 Americans are killed with guns. This violence affects everyone, everywhere – from big cities to small towns to rural communities – and as mothers, we can no longer wait for politics to catch up to the policies we need. We can support the Second Amendment while doing so much more to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people and make our communities safer.
That’s why we advocate for the following goals:
1. Close the deadly loopholes in our background check system that allow minors and dangerous people like felons and domestic abusers easy access to guns.
2. Promote gun safety so that America’s children will no longer be exposed to unacceptable levels of risk.
3. Support reasonable limits on where, when and how loaded guns are carried and used in public.
4. Create enforceable laws that address gun trafficking and fraudulent purchasing to keep illegal guns off our streets.
It is time for our government to enact common-sense gun laws supported by 90 percent of the American people: if our elected officials will not protect our children and families, we will find leaders who will. For too long, the conversation about gun violence in America has been controlled by those who stand to profit from easy access to guns. In the meantime, American families continue to be destroyed by gun violence. Mothers have had enough.
Since our inception after the Sandy Hook Elementary mass shooting, Moms Demand Action has mobilized mothers across the country to become the largest grassroots movement working to reduce gun violence. Moms Demand Action is a program of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention advocacy organization in the country, with more than 3.5 million grassroots supporters
