Spokane held its 13th annual Lilac City Comicon on June 1st and 2nd. Founder Nathan O’Brien moved here from Seattle in 2006. It wasn’t long before he started asking around. Asking when the next convention was coming to town.

He was surprised to hear ‘never, there is none’. Naturally, he took the initiative, and held the first Spokane Comicon in 2007 at the Gonzaga University Globe Room at Cataldo Hall, a venue typically used for dances and weddings. That event drew a little over 300 people, which was a start.
“I have made it my personal mission to bring a slice of the comic and pop culture world to Spokane while keeping it affordable for everyone.” Says Nathan on their old website.

If you’ve ever been to a convention like this, you know what to expect. If not, one of the highlights was the people who came decked out in full cosplay. People came from all over costumed as their favorite characters from pop culture, capped off with multiple competitions at the end of the day.
