Lime and Sidewalks

Lime scooters and bikes are anticipated to return to Spokane streets the week of May 13 as deal part of the Shared Mobility program. The city picked Lime out of four companies who all vied for the contract.

The bikes and scooters can be used for a small fee. They are locked to 15 mph on flat ground and 7 mph in Riverfront park. On downtown streets the speed limit will be 30 mph. Lime will pay 75 cents per vehicle per day of operation. The city estimates this will bring in at least $50,000 in revenue for them. The money will be dedicated to the improvement of bike lanes and trail projects.

Councilwoman Kate Burke is working with community outreach groups on a new project. The goal would be to paint some of Spokane’s sidewalks rainbow in celebration of pride month. The city won’t allow painted crosswalks like in Seattle so the project leaders settled on sidewalks. Councilman Mike Fagan told KXLY that he believes there are more important priorities. “I can assure you that rainbow sidewalks and crosswalks are the furthest things from their minds right now.” Speaking of his District 1 citizens. “The citizens in District 1 want their streets in good repair, they want the police to respond to their property crime issues, and they are screaming for the city to do something different with a part of our approach to the homeless issue.”
