Colville Tribal members have opposed the update for eminent domain laws in a chapter of The Colville Tribal coding handbook according to the Tribal Tribune. Former Colville Business Council member Larry Allen shared an opinion of many naysayers, “Bottom line, we are taking on a white man’s law. That’s how we lost our whole territory. Imminent domain. That’s what this is … You look through this thing, it’s really not protecting tribal members’ rights. I understand the sovereignty of our tribe, but how in the heck does me owning land affect the sovereignty of tribe? … I couldn’t see doing this to a tribal member, whether I liked them or not.”

A western long-eared bat was discovered with white-nose syndrome in King County according to the WDFW. With the discovery of the bat and after a review of samples taken from the bat it was confirmed as the 12th bat species discovered with the fungus. King County s the most affected area in Washington with 29 of the 30 confirmed cases of white-nose syndrome in three bat species. White-nose syndrome has also been confirmed for the first time in Washington outside of King County.
The disease is caused by a fungus spread while bats hibernate infecting skin and causing damage, especially to delicate wing tissue, and physiologic imbalances that can lead to disturbed hibernation, depleted fat reserves, dehydration, and death. While the disease does not affect humans and other animals, humans can spread the fungus to bats by carrying fungal spores on clothing, shoes, or recreation equipment that comes into contact with the fungus. Bats are important to our crops and forest health since they eat large amounts of insects that cause damage in these habitats.
