About the Show

Mind of Metal logo

Mind of Metal aims to bring a metal show to Spokane that represents the diversity, intensity, musicianship, and songwriting of the genre. Over the last 3-4 decades, metal fans have proven to be some of the most loyal and passionate music fans out there, allowing underground bands and musicians to sustain multi-decade long careers with zero to minimal radio or commercial support. Despite this, perception of the genre at large is often limited since so few bands ever achieve true mainstream success, especially in America.

Because of this, Mind of Metal places an emphasis on the fact that metal contains a seemingly endless array of subgenres. Surprisingly to some people, the world of heavy music has actually taken influences from nearly every other form of music at one point or another. From classically influenced power metal, to dissonant death metal, to bands such as Angra or Sepultura who incorporate traditional latin percussion, to fusion genres such as folk metal and many others, it is clear that the world of metal is much more vast than it’s stereotypes would suggest.

The show also includes trivia and musical facts about the local and international bands played on the show as well as interviews with metal/hard rock musicians. The goal being to have an outlet on the radio for metalheads who are into both the history of the music, and the creative process behind it.
