Bonneville Power Administration helps fund $1 million to help the oncoming rainbow trout in the Sanpole River on the Kalispel reservation. They are going to fix 4 different fish passageways on iron and lovie creek, plant more vegetation to help with erosion, and fix 17 miles of fencing that was destroyed by wildlife.
The Kalispel Tribe Fish and Wildlife contractor says that rebuilding the passageways for the trout is very helpful to the ecosystem and it is the perfect time to do this because of future climate change.
They also received a grant from the US Department of Justice of $679,000 to help with project.
In addition, the US Department of Justice awarded 10 Native American tribes in 7 different states $5.7 million to aide crime victims in their respected Native communities.

A budget proposal from Governor Inslee and employees at psychiatric institutes which would hire 800 more full time employees. Different staff members from Western State and Eastern State Hospital are starting to worry about growing safety concerns for themselves. Assaults have been on the rise in recent years. House and Senate budgets have proposed adding fewer employees than Inslee, requesting staff increases of 709 and 689.
Mike Yestramski, a psychiatric social worker at Western State Hospital, believes investing now would save money in the long run, by aiding in patients’ recovery and allowing them to rejoin their communities faster.
The legislative session is set to meet on April 28th.
