Seattle officials are moving forward with the proposed mobile safe injection site. The safe injection site would allow those who use drugs intravenously to use in a clean and safe environment. They would be able to use sanitary equipment and be monitored before and after to ensure fewer overdoses and deaths. Supporters also hope to have a waiting area and treatment options right next door.

.Meg Olberding with Seattle’s Human Services Department said last Thursday that the city plans to use a large medical van and park it in the same site every day. The location has not been determined yet but officials hope that it can be placed somewhere where overdoses and drug-related deaths are a known issue.

Salina Savage received $690,000 from the government after whistleblowing on Sage Tec, a government contractor for the Hanford Nuclear Plant who created false companies to take jobs away from legitimate businesses according to the Spokesman-Review.

After an eight-year court battle, U.S. District Court Judge Salvador Mendoza on Thursday signed the settlement on behalf of the plaintiff and $5.5 million fines against the company who claimed to be a small, woman-owned business.

U.S. Attorney Joe Harrington stated quote, “Small-business fraud not only harms the taxpayers and the vital cleanup mission at Hanford but legitimate, small, disadvantaged businesses that do not have the opportunity to fairly compete for and perform subcontracts.”

On Monday, Washington State became the only state in the U.S. with net neutrality protection, repealing the nationwide regulations by the Federal Communications Commission according to The Stranger.
In March, House Bill 2282 passed in Washington state protecting net neutrality and a free and open Internet blocking the FCC’s ruling on the repeal by becoming law. The Washington law prohibits telecom providers from blocking content or devices, throttling traffic, or participating in paid prioritization.

Oregon has passed a similar law starting in 2019. Other states such as New York, Vermont, and Montana are in the process of implementing executive orders to reinstate net neutrality.

Rep. Drew Hansen, Bainbridge Island Democrat who sponsored the bill stated, “No one other than the giant cable companies thinks it’s a good idea to let the giant cable companies dictate the speed and price of the content you view on the internet.”

Newman Lake will be closed on June 21-22 for treatment of the lake with herbicide to control milfoil according to a press release from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Eurasian watermilfoil is a non-native plant brought to America from Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. It is an extremely rapid growing plant that can take over an entire lake within two years creating a canvas.

The herbicide is part of a continued five-year effort to reduce the milfoil and protect both public safety and fish and wildlife.
